(Japanese students: Please see the lab's Japanese page instead for information on joining the lab)
The following information is for international students interested in joining the lab as a student or postdoc.
Graduate studies:
It is possible to join the lab for MS or PhD studies through either the Department of General Systems Studies (GSS) or the Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences (GPES). Note that both departments offer both Spring and Fall admissions. HOWEVER: Note that GSS and GPES have different application deadlines, procedures, and requirements. The research projects/opportunities in the lab are the same regardless of whether the student enters the GSS program or the GPES program. It is also possible to complete a Masters in one program and then apply to the other program for a Ph.D. (i.e., Masters in GPES, Ph.D. in GSS, or vice versa).
The Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences (GPES) is administered entirely in English. Classes are taught in English, and
Japanese language skills are not required.
Both a Masters and Doctoral studies are offered.
Dept of GSS Doctoral program:
Japanese language skills are NOT a prerequisite for application to the Dept of GSS Doctoral program. Please contact me directly regarding the doctoral program.
Please contact me to discuss which program is most appropriate for your individual situation.
International students interested in applying directly to the doctoral program are also encouraged to apply for a
MEXT postgraduate research scholarship (application for these scholarships is administered by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General in the applicant's country -- please contact your local Japanese embassy/consulate for information) .
